What to Expect in Alterations

What to Expect in Alterations

Oct 18, 2021

After your dress comes in, you’ll likely need alterations. This can be anything from a minor hem change to anything as elaborate as adding or removing sleeves—it all depends on how much you’re looking to change. Since we don’t offer in-house alterations, we’re letting you know what you can generally expect from the process.

Timing

You’ll need at least 2 months for fittings and alterations, even if you’re only getting minor changes. At the first fitting, you’ll tackle any major alterations: tightening straps, hemming your gown, changing design aspects if you want to. You’ll come back twice, generally two weeks after the first fitting and two weeks after that, to ensure everything fits perfectly.

What to Bring

Be sure to bring the shoes you plan to wear so the hem length is correct, as well as any undergarments you plan to wear on your wedding day. This way, the fit is most accurate. We also recommend bringing any accessories you’re planning to wear, so that you have the best vision in your mind of what you’ll like on your wedding day!

Pricing

Pricing varies depending on your seamstress. Some charge per service, and some charge a flat rate. Be sure to budget accordingly for your dress—if you know you’ll need more extensive alterations, budget a few hundred dollars higher than you may expect to. Generally, alterations range from $250-$550, depending on how much you need changed.
