Bridal Makeup Tips

As you can probably expect, your wedding day will likely be one of the most photographed days of your life! That means you’re definitely gonna want to look your absolute best, right?

From seating arrangements and music to catering and décor, you want everything to be perfect on your big day. Occasionally, certain aspects of planning fall by the wayside, including your wedding day makeup. Let’s put your bridal beauty back on top!

In terms of makeup, we're almost certain you'd want to avoid any mistakes you can (pictures last forever, right?). Whether you’re getting your makeup done by someone else or doing it yourself, these tips will come in handy for looking flawless on your big day.

Consider Your Wedding Season
It's important for brides to pick foundations based on the weather they'll be in. Winter foundations shouldn't look dry; summer foundations shouldn't get too shiny too fast. Opt for something long-lasting if your wedding is all day and will go into the night.

We recommend using a water-resistant primer to prep the skin for summer brides. If you're getting married in the fall or winter, you might want to consider a fuller coverage foundation!

Choosing a Lipstick That Feels Comfortable

Lips are so important! Trying on all the possible shades at the makeup counter is a great way to figure out what looks best on you, and most importantly, what feels right.

Personally, we love a natural lip! First, you want something that will stay all day like a stain. Totally feel free to go with a bolder lip, but no matter what you choose, go for something long-lasting and in a shade that feels comfortable to you! While your wedding day makeup should be special, you don’t necessarily need to wear a red lip if you typically only wear chapstick in your everyday life.

Test Out Your Makeup Look

Most makeup artists offer bridal trials separate from the actual wedding day if you're getting your makeup done professionally. Both you and the makeup artist need a trial! The chances of trying different looks mean that on your wedding day you'll feel confident and happy in the knowledge that the look you're wearing is right for you and will last.

And if you’re doing your makeup yourself, definitely do a trial in advance so you can perfectly plan out what look your enjoy and what products are best.

Use Waterproof Makeup

Our biggest makeup tip by far - waterproof everything! Obviously you want to protect your makeup from potential waterworks, which are inevitable. But it’s also really helpful in case you’re getting married on a hot day. And if you do find your makeup streaking at all throughout the day, use a makeup sponge to blot your skin, pressing the product in rather than leaving streaks or wiping away all of your makeup.

Make Sure You Have Products on Hand for Touch-Ups

Always make sure that you have blotting papers and lipstick on hand throughout the day. It’s also nice to have some translucent powder for any touch-ups.

Match Your Foundation Perfectly

There are lots of important aspects of your wedding day makeup that you want to be near perfect, but if you could only be particular about one thing, make sure your foundation matches flawlessly! It can be so difficult to find a match, so make sure you work with a makeup artist to find the best shade. You'll be photographed non-stop on your wedding day, and the last thing you want is to see streaks of foundation or your neck and face not matching.
